What is the u3a?
The u3a is a unique and exciting organisation which provides life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications, but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery!
Often we learn from and with each other, no ‘teachers’ and ‘pupils’ here, it is all very sociable.
However, please consider that everyone here is a volunteer, if you can ease the running of any groups you attend by helping the host/convenor in any small way, please do so. We can probably all say “we worked hard all our life, now it’s time to relax”, but if you do that here, you will be missing out.

What does Windsor u3a offer?
Windsor u3a was formed in 2008 to bring the benefits of u3a to our area.
Windsor and District u3a has well over 700 members from a wide area around Windsor, including Eton, Slough, Datchet, Old Windsor, Englefield Green, Iver and Ascot – essentially as far as you wish to travel.
Our main activities centre on the 90+ Interest Groups our members run, many of which are hosted in their homes, see the details by following links from the Interest Group Info page.
Additionally, we hold monthly general meetings (with guest speaker) on the second Wednesday of each month, in Gardeners’ Hall, St. Leonards Road, SL4 3DR. Prospective members are very welcome. Do see the latest Online Newsletter (link right, or below) for future monthly meeting details, plus other events.
How to Join
For 2026, the annual membership fee is £11 per person from 1st January (£7 if joining from July onwards). A small additional (typically) ‘per-meeting’ cost is usually also necessary, dependent on many factors, the Interest Groups section in any Newsletter will give examples. For specifics, see each group’s own web page, accessible via the A-Z List of Groups page.

Joining is also possible by meeting us (typically at a Monthly Meeting), completing an application form and using your credit/debit card.

Windsor & District u3a is located in the u3a South East Region, within which we benefit from support and events from Thames Valley Network (often known as simply ‘TVN’).
Our u3a was formed in 2008, we are a growing and friendly affiliate of the national u3a organisation.
Committee members are elected to the committee at the AGM in April, and can serve a maximum of two 3-year terms, but you can join the committee at any time of the year.
We also welcome members who may not wish to commit to a full committee position but are able to assist on an as-needed basis. (e.g. special events, both in planning and/or on-the-day).
Any member of Windsor u3a is welcome to attend one of our committee meetings (held on the first Wednesday, monthly) as an observer, just contact the secretary to arrange.

Martin’s role is to lead the Committee in setting and delivering u3a direction and strategy.
Carol Crago
Carol’s role includes publicity of Monthly Meetings, dissemination of information from the Third Age Trust, South East Region and Thames Valley Network to committee.
David Treder
David looks after our finances, licensing, expenses and Charity Commission business.
Keith Humphries
Keith looks after the Beacon Membership database and assists with Technical Facilities at monthly meetings.
Linda London
Linda leads the Communications Group, overseeing all internal and external communications while serving as the committee’s liaison.
Dave Humphries
Dave administers the web site.
He also leads the Technical Facilities team.

This won’t be here on the real site, just my notes.
- The editing interface feels more intuitive than Stackable, and less bloated with upgrade buttons than Publish Press. With both those, each accordion ‘item’ is a standalone entity, requiring separate editing, unlike the superior parent-child relationship here, which allows styling of all items on the page in one place. Also, in Kadence, the accordion items can be compacted to aid content editing by saving a LOT of scrolling.
- I set each item as a heading type (h2) in main accordion properties
The page opens with all closed.
Then gave a couple of the items an anchor – and using that suffix (e.g. https://staging.windsoru3a.org.uk/about/#abt-winds-u3a ) loads the page with the relevant item open and positioned correctly! (EXACTLY what I’d hoped for) - Selecting the parent block allows addition of more accordion items, which appear at bottom, but are easily moved after the fact.
- Only six icon pair choices; +/-, +/x, u/d arrows, in normal and reverse backgrounds
- The new item comes with an empty ‘pane’ (div?), to which the safest way seems to be add a paragraph and paste in all content from the sub-page we’re about to lose.
- The support website is logical and helpful to find how a specific block element works
- However, the Kadence Block Controls is AI centric and not helpful to find how a specific block element works, but I don’t think we need it.
